The M506 fixed mount, Class D DSC marine VHF radio is almost identical in size to the M504A, but with a larger dot-matrix display, a sleekly designed speaker microphone, a louder 10-watt audio output from the front-facing speaker, and the same easy-to-operate user interface as ICOM&rsquo:s M424, M92D, M400BB and CommandMic IV&trade:.
It features active noise canceling, &ldquo:Last Call&rdquo: voice recording, and compatibility with the optional CommandMic IV&trade:. 25W hailer with a listen function. This is the M506 version with NMEA 2000 interface, no AIS receiver, and a front-mount microphone jack.

This version does have AIS. The version without AIS is the 504 model.
I was opposed to AIS as I prefer the ICOM add on that provices AIS on a Chart Display. However it is handy to have the vessel infor handy for hailing purposes. I'd mount this below and use the extra microphone on deck.
