I bought this ladder to put on our deck off the water. Putting it together, one tube in another should have been a piece of cake! However... because there were aluminum nubbins on the inside of the tube that the "smaller" tube went in, there was a LOT of work that had to go into putting it together. First the tube would not go in, and then we couldn't pull it back out with both of us using all our strength. We wiggled, pried, banged on it with a wood board (so as not to it on it directly and damage our new ladder) and hammered to get it back out. It took a good HOUR to get it back out with both of us doing all we could and getting very frustrated. We got it out and the "smaller" tube wasn't really all that smaller and then we saw that the inside of the bigger tube had deformities that weren't allowing the smaller tube to go far enough in for the holes to line up. We improvised and sanded down the smaller tube on the end, and stuck a wire brush inside the bigger tube and sanded down both pieces before attempting THAT again. We sanded away as much as we could and then did, once again, have to use the hammering method to get it to go in all the way this time. Had I known it would be like that, I would've asked them to put it together at the store. It NEVER should have been THAT difficult!!!!

After that fiasco though, installing the ladder onto the deck was easy as expected. It looks great now, is very stable, and we are very happy with it. Not with the quality control of the product though.

***Before putting it together though, make sure to look inside the bigger tubes to see if it will go in as easily as it should! Good luck!!!!

Service and delivery comments:

I had it delivered to the store as it saved on shipping and we had just moved and wanted to make sure we got it. West Marine did call the same day they got it and I was able to get it quickly. Thank you for that!

Got the in a few months back. Packaging showed no damage but when I opened it an end was crushed. I tried to round it back out but the vibration of the repair broke three of the step welds off. Very cheap and poor quality.

          Comments about Straight Dock Ladders:

I bought the ladder so my wife could safely get from our fixed dock to our floating jet ski dock with a 3 ft tidal fluctuation. The ladder is small enough to fit in between the fixed dock and the floating dock without fouling the floating dock. It is compact but wide enough. It took five minutes to assemble and install.
