I was replacing a rod that broke that morning. This was a good looking rob similar to the one I broke. It was inexpensive and very good value for the price. I reused my reel. Have only used it one day and have not yet caught anything with it but that is not the fault of the rod. It looks good and feels good.

I was terribly disappointed with the quality of these rods from Penn. They look great, and with the Penn name I had high hopes for them as quality price-point product. After one use, during one day of inshore fishing, they literally began to fall apart and became unusable. West Marine stood behind the product and offered replacement or refund. This is not a West Marine issue but a Penn quality control problem. There are far better products at the same price point, or a little higher. I wouldn't trust my money to any Penn Mariner rod after my experience with these. Thank goodness I bought them from West Marine, otherwise I would have just been out of luck any money! I plan to voice my displeasure with Penn as well.

Great price on a Penn rod for the average fisherman. Sure there are nicer, better rods out there for five times the price but for the price you cant go wrong!
