Comments about Plastimo Iris 50 Hand Bearing Compass:

Used this compass on my last 1 week trip on a sailboat in the British Virgin Islands. It performs well when taking bearings from your cheek and is very durable (it was dropped a few times and wasn't affected). The only negative is that if you don't hold it somewhat level while viewing at your cheek, then the readings appear to be slanted. After a while you will adapt to this quirk and tend to twist it so it is level and easier to read (I would say it's more of a getting use to the compass then anything else). Love it and would recommend it.

      Develops Air bubbles

Comments about Plastimo Iris 50 Hand Bearing Compass:

I bought the Iris 50 compass for small boat use, canoeing, and wilderness camping. After a year it developed an air bubble that grew in size. The compass was always stored carefully and never exposed to high altitudes or excessive hot/cold temperatures, but the bubble formed anyway. Plastimo was of no help and refused to replace or repair the compass as it was out of warranty

Comments about Plastimo Iris 50 Hand Bearing Compass:

I use this compass on my sea kayak and fishing boat, and also find it great for hiking.
It is easy to use, and the 1 degree graduations yield better accuracy.
One shot with a flashlight, and it is good for a while, Just close your eyes when you flash it, and your night vision is safe.
