ROCNA Anchors

Independently tested as one of the best, Rocna Anchors stand out for their holding power, setting ability and ease of use. Designed to set quickly in all types of seabeds, their unique geometry enables them to orient themselves for fast penetration, regardless of how they hit the bottom. They combine a chisel tip, roll-bar and skids to dig in straight and bury rapidly, typically within one meter, even in thick weed and kelp.

The Rocna’s folded fluke geometry resists wind and current shifts and doesn’t easily trip out upon load reversal, instead tending to rotate in place. Unlike other anchors, extra lead or cast iron weights in the tip are not employed. Instead, weight is efficiently distributed throughout the design for greater strength and increased blade surface area, resulting in superior holding power.

Super High Holding Power (SHHP) Classification (currently models 55 to 110—other models soon to be added) reflects the Rocna’s performance and quality, and provides independent verification of the ruggedness of the design. This means greater security for cruisers, and a lighter anchor for weight-sensitive craft. Their self-launching design locks home on most bow rollers without having to be guided into place and fits most bow rollers snugly enough to prevent movement while at sea. Attachment points are provided for a trip-line, a tandem anchor and lashing on the bow.

  • Style: Fixed-shank “scoop”
  • Material: High-strength alloy steel with hot-dipped galvanized (Stainless steel available by Special Order--call 1-800-BOATING for a quote).
  • Application: Most bottom types
  • Pros: Narrow shank profiule for deep penetration, wide fluke and chisel tip for high holding power, sets easily from bow roller, roll bar for self-righting and resets
  • Cons: More expensive than fluke anchors; comparable in price with plow style anchors
  • Warranty: Lifetime

We've got the 33lb Rocna on our Hunter 31 with 30' of chain and 5/8" Samson. It fits perfectly on the bow roller, and sets instantly. I was worried about not having a windlass with this much weight, and yes, it's a pretty decent workout, but not too bad. I also run a 30lb cullet down to the chain on its own line, and my 10,000lb boat is not going anywhere. A decent sleep is worth almost any price! Even the price of a Rocna...

Warning! Made of poor quality steel!

As reported in many sailing forums, Rocna has been making their anchors in China out of a poorer quality of steel and the shanks can be easily bent!

    Comments about Anchors:

I've only used the anchor 4 times but it grabbed and set every single one of those times. I thank Rocna for coming up with a anchor that you could sleep with, without having to worry you're going to drag or end up on a sand bar or aground. I did a lot of looking around, and Every time, I ended up coming back to Rocna."

    Comments about Rocna Anchors Anchors:

after lots of research i decided on a rocna. i wanted a reliable, bulletproof anchor for living anchor-out. so many people are happy with this anchor and has held fine for years, but, what they dont tell you on rocna's website is that plow anchors drag in soft mud. i learned this the hard way, one time dragging over half a mile until it bit into hard sand, at least it bit at all. i thought maybe a fisherman pulled my new expensive anchor up on accident- i paid for my misjudgement by ending up on the beach a week later. plow anchors have the name for a reason. rocna is no exception. the other negative reviews attest to similar experiences. i'm quite mad because rocna advertises "superior holding power in any bottom" ect. simply a lie.

Great anchor. Sets fast and holds good everytime I have dropped it in. Resets in the roller easily. It also solved the problem I had with a previous anchor catching on the trailer when launching the boat.

I read all of the reviews and had tried two other anchors on my boat which just did not hold consistently. After looking at the tests and reviews online I decided to spend the extra $$ on this one. Wow all I can say is I am really happy with how this anchor works! It required some slight modifications to my boat for it to fit properly but nothing unusual or difficult. I am really happy with this anchor.

I am single handling boat most of the time. Needed something what will work without to much fuss and, art in anchoring.
Learned from manual and manufacturer web site to pick proper size.
In short it did work on first try. So did work on second try as described.
Sets quickly, and holds. Enough said.

                      Comments about Anchors:

Our 25Kilo (55lb) Rocna holds our 12 ton sailboat like a champ. But you can read all about that in many posts. What I think is exceptional is combining it's holding power with it's ability to set almost immediately in such varied bottoms.
We have seen many boats arrive and have many fruitless attempts at setting their Danforths and (much-loved by many) CQRs. They had to leave our pristine little bay. These were cruisers with good size anchors. No lunch hooks here. All while we're swinging comfortably after our Rocna set first try. Mind you, our Rocna came up with a forest attached which proved we were in the same mess they couldn't handle. And, like I said, it holds ground like a stubborn ox.
Only reason for 4 out of 5 stars is that roll bar is a bear around bowsprits. This is an anchor you can feel good about sending out with the kids/grandkids.

I have had a 88lb on the bow of my 35 ton trawler for the past four years cruising all around Florida and the Bahamas, 40 years experience in all kinds of boats and anchoring situations and this is the best setting/holding rig I have ever seen, lulls you almost complacent in tidal changes and storms, I am on the site purchasing another Rocna for my second and newest boat, a 40 ton steel trawler which we will use in the upper Great Lakes, the cheap steel whiners circulate one photo of a bent shaft anchor THAT STILL DID NOT COME APART/FAIL, under who knows what circumstances, probably bent on a land based brake press.

                        • Worked On Catalina 30

                        Comments about Anchors:

This anchor worked well on my 1997 Catalina 30. Even on short scope, it held in light winds, but the rode had to lengthened in relation to wind and/or sea state.
