Product Description

This rugged, pocket friendly wind meter turns your smartphone into a high-tech meteorological tool. Works with iPhone® 4, 4S, 5 and Samsung Galaxy S2, S3, S4. Made of a one-piece durable plastic rotor and low-friction Teflon bearing, the wind meter communicates directly to the magnetic field sensor in your smartphone. Downloadable, free app allows you to register actual, mean and max wind speed on a smooth graph that supports both drag and pinch to zoom in on all the details.

Compact, pocket friendly and practical!

With its compact two cup design, inspired by professional anemometers, the Vaavud™ wind meter is accurate, practical and truly pocket friendly. It has a one piece durable plastic rotor and low friction PTFE bearing. Reliability and long service life are assured through the use of revolutionary electronic-free technology, communicating directly with the magnetic field sensor in your smartphone. Free Vaavud™ App available from the Apple App Store and Android Market! The Vaavud™ App measures and displays wind speed in commonly used units of measurement. It has a neat and clean interface that shows the most important wind characteristics: actual, mean and max wind speeds. The smoothed graph provides additional data on variations in strength as well as a quick overview. The graph supports both drag and pinch to zoom so data can be viewed in fine detail.

Precision at your fingertips!

The Vaavud™ wind meter has a wind range from 4 knots up to 48 knots (2 m/s up to 25 m/s). Accuracy is the lower of +- 4% and 0.4 knots (0.2 m/s), with testing and calibration confirmed in the professional wind tunnel at the Technical University of Denmark. The cup anemometer design makes the Vaavud™ less sensitive to the way it is pointed; a weakness in impeller type wind meters.

Compatble With:

  • Apple iPhone 4, 4S, and 5
  • Apple iPad 2, 3 and 4 generation/mini
  • Samsung Galaxy S2, S3, and S4

Comments about Wind Meter for Smart Phones:

This is a great little gadget for sailors! You can spend hundreds, or even thousands buying wind measuring electronics, or you can spend $50 on this. Seems like a no brainer to me! It works well, and if there happens to be someone with this device at the lake or launch site you are going to, you can see the current winds others are measuring. That is one of the things I really like about this app. The ability to share your local information with others is invaluable in certain circumstances. Buy this if you need to measure wind speeds. It is the cheapest way to do it, and you already have your smart phone with you.

Comments about Wind Meter for Smart Phones:

I monitor wind for drone flights. Product is easy to use and accurate enough for safe flight.

From an asthetic stand point only, I wish the wind pods were black, red makes it seem toy like, which it is not.

Comments about Wind Meter for Smart Phones:

I am using this primarily for weeknight J24 racing. It is a great, and fun tool for checking wind speed and gusts. It worked with lifeproof case, and a friends otterbox case, so we were not afraid to pull phones out and use it while sailing around pre-start and in between races. The unit is very durable, and needs no special care, I just throw it into a gear bag pocket to bring sailing. There are crowd sharing applications (check out weendy)to use with it as well as the free app from Vaavud. Hopefully in the near future we will be seeing wind direction as part of the Vaavud app offering.

Picked one up at the Sailboat show. Used it about 10 times and love it. Great for determining the constant wind and gusts and saved rigging the wrong sail/kite multiple times.
Leave in the glove box of car and use it anytime.

Comments about Wind Meter for Smart Phones:

I've had a blast with the Vaavud. Used it in low wind with great readings and results and have been totally compelled to take it out when its howling to see whats happening. It was great, very fun readings and the new geographic crowd share map is neat to share readings with.
I know what I'm getting my people for Christmas!

      cool device

      By toe72

Comments about Wind Meter for Smart Phones:

Used this extensively this summer from a zodiac. It was pretty accurate, but it required a steady hand on your iphone. It seemed to lose connection if the iphone is bouncing around too much. It was interesting seeing the variation in the windspeed.
