This switch has been in my Wellcraft for 4 Years+. I haven't had any problems. One review states that this switch ruined an expensive Jabsco pump. The pump has overheat protectiona and should have had a circuit breaker. I have been pleased and trust this switch more than the automatic pump in my Scout.

During checks for recommisioning, unit had failed - again. Disassembled to see if I could find failure mechanism. The "sealed" electronics unit had filled with water and the wiring had corroded. This cause the connections to fail and as the float would raise, no current would flow to the pump. I would imagine that it could also fail in a "on" position as well, likely causing a pump failure as well. I disasembled the replacement unit and caulked around the sealing joint. Hopefully, this will keep the water out. Too bad you have to "fix" a new unit to make sure it continues to function more than a season.

Comments about Rule Industries Rule-A-Matic Plus Float Switch:

These switches work well right out of the box, but make sure to have a spare in the boat since these will break shortly after installation. I've had two identical failures where the switch was stuck "closed". When the switch was supposed to shut off the pump, it just slowed it down. I'm switching to a design with no moving parts and uses electric field to sense water level. I am hoping for better luck. But certainly try any other float switch than this one.

This switch has a cage to keep items from holding switch open or closed. Keeps bilge pumps working properly. Nothing worse than taking on water and discovering the bilge pumps don't work...that will make your blood pressure to spike. Easy bro install and keeps your peace of mind

If you have to use this switch due design of the shower box, buy two, get the extended warranty (if WM will sell it on this). Install the first and have the second on standby. Check it works on a schedule similar as going to the head...and you should be all right.

The switch failed after 2 seasons. Controls Shower/Air Conditioning sump box. I'll need to replace the switch with the same type because it is a direct replacement without having to replace the entire Shower Sump assembly. I'm not happy about having to buy another one of these knowing that it will probably fail. When it does fail again, I'll replace the sump assembly with another manufacturer.
