This switch has a cage to keep items from holding switch open or closed. Keeps bilge pumps working properly. Nothing worse than taking on water and discovering the bilge pumps don't work...that will make your blood pressure to spike. Easy bro install and keeps your peace of mind

If you have to use this switch due design of the shower box, buy two, get the extended warranty (if WM will sell it on this). Install the first and have the second on standby. Check it works on a schedule similar as going to the head...and you should be all right.

The switch failed after 2 seasons. Controls Shower/Air Conditioning sump box. I'll need to replace the switch with the same type because it is a direct replacement without having to replace the entire Shower Sump assembly. I'm not happy about having to buy another one of these knowing that it will probably fail. When it does fail again, I'll replace the sump assembly with another manufacturer.

I have no problem with the construction of this unit. What I do have a problem with, is the switch itself. After all, that's why it's called a SWITCH! Mine failed in the closed position and drained my batteries. Pulled the switch out and did a continuity test. Both float positions showed a closed condition. It's out of warranty but still looks brand new. Taking it back tomorrow and hopefully, West Marine will make good on it after I bring up all the negative feedback that has been posted. Thanks for the ammo reviewers.

Comments about Rule A Matic Plus Float Switch:

I have had four Rule-A-Matic Float Switches fail in four years. One lasted less than three months. One stayed on an burned-up the pump. Their warranty replacement procedure is very difficult, West Marine should consider dropping this supplier until they get their quality and service up to par.

Comments about Rule A Matic Plus Float Switch:

During checks for recommisioning, unit had failed - again. Disassembled to see if I could find failure mechanism. The "sealed" electronics unit had filled with water and the wiring had corroded. This cause the connections to fail and as the float would raise, no current would flow to the pump. I would imagine that it could also fail in a "on" position as well, likely causing a pump failure as well. I disasembled the replacement unit and caulked around the sealing joint. Hopefully, this will keep the water out. Too bad you have to "fix" a new unit to make sure it continues to function more than a season.
