Comments about Simrad Broadband 4G Radar:
Liked the concept of 4g Broadband radar. It was easy installation with plug and play units teamed with B & G Zeus touch 7. However from the start the MFD would fail to show the radar transmit screen 50% of time on start up. Mounted on mast there was a large blind spot behind (which the pulse radar does not have when mounted in exactly the same location). When radar did work then the close range target acquisition was good but mid range was average and long range was poor and it did not pick up rain squalls. The B & G MFD unit was unreliable and required frequent reboots.
Service and delivery comments:
Easy to install. But when the radar failed to function correctly Navico technical support team blamed self installation. When we contacted the approved Navico technicians we could find no local technician with hands on experience of 4G radar and B & G Zeus touch series MFD so all they could check was is there adequate 12 volt supply. If not, then substitution of cables and units would be the only solution to find the fault ......... but the technicians carried no spare cables or units and so eventually the units would have to be sent back to the factory taking 5-6 weeks. We did actually purchase ourselves as Navico had no stock in the warehouse a substitute unit but that failed to solve the problem. At this point everything was returned to Navico. We would like to make it clear West Marine were not at fault and their staff and customer support team were helpful throughout.
