The latest in the line of rugged SPOT Satellite GPS Messengers, SPOT Gen3 keeps you connected even when you’re off the grid. Using the power of satellite technology, SPOT works virtually anywhere in the world. Check in with your personal and professional networks, send custom messages and let others track your location in real-time via Google Maps™. In an emergency, transmit an SOS with your location to GEOS International Emergency Response Coordination Center.

  • Compact and lightweight: Weighing only 3.2oz. (with batteries), it packs easily for traveling.

Embarked on a 7 day motorcycle dualsport ride by myself and on day 2 I fell and broke my leg. I was 30 miles from civilization, my only salvation was my SPOT. Within 2 hours of activating my SPOT I was being loaded into a helicopter for my trip to the hospital. I'll never ride without my SPOT!

I've been a SPOT customer since 2008, when they came out with SPOT1, and what surprises me the most is there has been no product development whatsoever in 7 years.

y SPOT3 is essentially a smaller, lighter, but just as ineffective spot1. I returned the unit a week after I bought it, having been led to believe its got neat new features. The bottom line, I'm still doing after all these years canned messaging, 1 way SOS, and the tracking service gets a little old. With several new 2-way communicators on the market, its time for me to upgrade.

What is really a drag is that my OK messages get through about 60% of the time, not 99% as the coverage map says. The folks at SPOT are stretching the truth.

Comments about SPOT Gen3 Satellite Messenger:

I like the SPOT and the service; this was an upgrade for me. So far the Gen 3 SPOT seems to have better (quicker) satellite acquisition and messages seem to be sent much faster than the Gen 2 SPOT. I'm only giving 4 stars instead of 5 because I had technical difficulties on SPOT's website and could NOT migrate my account from the old SPOT to the new one, necessitating a new subscription. I will contact them to clear it up, it is NOT West Marine's fault.

Service and delivery comments:

West Marine delivery to store was quicker than advertised. I'm happy with that.

My wife worries when I go dirt bike riding by myself so we bought the SPOT GEN 3. Now she can track me wherever I go (if I turn it on LOL). My buddies use it and it is a great tool and keeps the family calm.

Comments about SPOT Gen3 Satellite Messenger:

I carry my SPOT on long bicycle trips in remote areas and on frequent shorter rides. On a normal day, it allows my wife or friends to watch my progress. I've had occasion to use the SOS button when I encountered an injured cyclist far from a town or cell coverage. The SPOT call center contacted the correct 911 center who dispatched a sheriff and medical almost instantly. They also contacted my wife and kept her current with what was going on. Now, I won't go out without it.

          Service and delivery comments:

I like the unit but do find the annual tracking and other service levels start to get pretty pricey. Don't know how that compares to other, similar, services.

worked well right out of the box. no problems with setting it up. it was purchased to supplement my EPIRB by allowing limited non-critical messaging. I do wish it had an available mounting system for installation on a boat.

I use this product mostly for motorcycle riding and hiking in remote locations. It could be a life saver if you can not get help any other way. It is such a shame the website and customer service is so difficult to work with. If anyone else offered this service I would switch in a minute. I would recommend to a friend because there is no other such service available.
