Comments about Tacktick T104 Super Sailing System:
Obviously, before you invest in a system in this price range, you think more than twice before forking over almost 3 grand! I wish I had thought about it a bit longer! I purchased this system some time ago and before installing it, I performed the preliminary recommended tests, as much as that was possible, which was basically the wind part of it, since experience says that the speed and depth sensors would not represent any problems and the electronics was accessible so there was little risk installing that part of the system. The test of the wind system was easy because it was self powered both display and sensor. The result of that test was very disappointing, I got nothing on the display and there did not seem to be any signal from the masthead sensor. I did go ahead and installed all the other components, including through hull sensors. At first, I got nothing on the display, checked everything as far as that was possible. The documentation that came with the product was so light that there was no help there, including trouble shooting. Ray Marine documentation is normally very detailed, but not for the TackTick. Apparently it is expected to work when in a system, so no documentation is necessary?
So, I contacted Ray Marine to get some help with this very expensive but non-functioning system, but nobody could give me any clues as to what was wrong or what to check to troubleshoot, so I ended up sending some of the parts back to Ray Marine. First reply I got was that they could not make it work and they didn't know why. So I asked them to replace the system with a new one, but then they came back and told me that now it worked! They never answered the question about how they made it work again, so I have no idea. Unfortunately, when I got the choice of getting my original, now supposedly working, system back or a new one, I chose to get my original system back.
