The handle is great for the money and is very light weight. It floats as described, but only an inch of the red, and half of the black grip sticks out of the water when floating. The rest is fully submerged. So, while you can retrieve it, you better do so immediately before you lose sight of it. I'd still buy this again, and probably will just to have two.

Second one bought: same problem 2 days after
Port supply did refund me. Did buy Harken one: no comparison at all , good quality, just for a few buck more

Comments about Primary Floating Winch Handles:

I bought this to supplement and older Lewmar winch handle I have that is a non-locking model. As everybody knows, winch handles are that item that you are always needing and if you drop one over the side , you can't live without it. My non-locking one is now my backup.

We needed handles at the last minute (loose too many overboard while racing ) . These we decent, and were weren't gauged with the price. I'd buy them again.

Comments about Primary Floating Winch Handles:

My mainsheet winch on the cabin top is close to a Bimini support. A longer handle can't be used. This one is the right size. It's a composite, light weight, but plenty strong. I prefer these handles over metal handles.

Always use two hands when changing out winch handles. These float, but in a blow, you're not going to want to go back and retrieve it if it goes overboard. :-)
