I've been buying these gloves for years; I have to buy a new pair each season. They always wear out in the same places: the fingertips of the pinkies. The problem is that the reinforcement stops just short of the distal phalanges (i.e. the last section of the finger).
I sail racing dinghies (Lasers, 420s) as well as cruising boats. The dinghy sailing involves a lot of small line handling, and a lot of it is controlled by the ends of the pinkies and the index fingers. So, it would improve the glove substantially if the reinforcement covered the whole finger. Additionally, it would help if the index finger was a full-finger -- the glove is, after all, billed as a Full Finger model -- instead of leaving off the end of it (this would eliminate a lot of blisters for me :-).

These are pretty much the same as all the other manufacturers- nice comfortable basic glove. Protects your hands during casual sailing. For club racing in heavy wind, they wear quickly at the heel, just like all the rest and will barely make it through 1 season. If only they would extend the tough material in the palm all the way across the glove, they would last a lot longer. If you do any serious racing, I recommend spending a little more and you g with a pro model

Poor quality. The "leather" wore through in less than 6 months of use. We are active liveaboard cruisers. Do not but these thinking that they will stand up to the rigors of offshore cruising.

Comments about Men's Full-Finger Sailing Gloves:

I use these gloves sailing in regattas and club races. My position on the boat is genoa trimmer, spinnaker hoist and trimmer, so these gloves endure much hard use. They have proven to be very durable and have held up well. I like the velcro closure on the bottom of the wrist. The gloves have good gripping material where needed. The gloves seem to dry out pretty quickly when I get them wet. All said, I like them.

Comments about Men's Full-Finger Sailing Gloves:

The "suede leather" material that comprises most of the fingers is actually some type of cloth. It feels like very thin felt.
When it gets wet, it dissolves before your eyes.

The gloves are worn through in a couple palces after only ten - mostly dry - outings.
And it's a big boat, so it's not like I'm holding a small sheet the whole time.

They really need to redesign/remanufacture with a different material.

sailing gloves that "melt" in water

Comments about Men's Full-Finger Sailing Gloves:

went through 3 pairs in little more than a year. For weekend day-sailor, those gloves wear off too fast. Always the same problem: dark grey colored material on gloves is almost water soluble. Maybe it is made-off the recycled cotton. Those areas are not exposed to wear, but holes develop really quick. As if the material melts away in water. Local store manager replaced them once.

Comments about West Marine Men's Full-finger Sailing Gloves, Navy/gray,:

I recently took up sailing and have used these gloves 7 times out on a sailboat. Holes started developing in the grey material after the second use. I am very disappointed in the quality of these gloves. I do not recommend them.

These gloves work great for gripping lines on boats. I have been using gill 3/4 gloves and these West ones are cheaper and have lasted longer. They are pretty roomy though.
