Andersen has improved their excellent stainless winches by adding a variable speed compact motor. Available in two versions; with the motor mounted below deck with smaller dimensions than the standard motor, and above deck with the motor directly below the winch. The motor is an all-in-one design, with no extra control boxes, and only three wires to attach, resulting in the smallest possible footprint. It uses no carbon brushes, virtually eliminating wear.

Comments about #40 Variable Speed Stainless Steel Above Deck Self Tailing Winch, 12V:
This is a great winch when intruding below deck is not an option. I installed one in my Lightwave 38 catamaran. The winch+motor is very compact and yet has plenty of power to raise my main sail in under 2 minutes.Photos:https://plus.google.com/photos/105187180429104089107/albums/5748107178459937793
