Penetrants & Lubricants
Find the marine penetrants and lubricants you need at West Marine.
The marine environment is very tough on materials since it combines wetness with corrosive salts. West Marine stocks specialty lubricants to make stuff work better. Following are five categories of lubricants you will find at West Marine:
Protective Coatings
Protective coatings coat surfaces with a waxy substance that seals the surface from the air and water. They displace water, protect against wear and stop corrosion. They can be used on electrical connections, bare metal on engines or other systems. Boeshield’s T-9 Spray Lube is an example of this type of this type of lubricant.
Spray Lubricants
Spray lubricants and penetrating oils are generally low viscosity oils that penetrate assemblies and leave an oily coating. They lubricate, protect and prevent corrosion. WD-40 is the best known of these products.
Greases
Greases have a gel consistency when they sit on a surface and are great for lubricating all moving parts. Some contain Teflon for additional lubricity. West Marine White Lithium Spray is an example of this type of lubricant.
Silicone Spray
Silicone spray, like McLube’s Sailkote High-Performance Dry Lubricant, is a very thin liquid that lubricates wood, nylon, metal and sliding surfaces that need to work smoothly. It can even be used on saw blades for less resistance when cutting. It ends up looking “dry” on the surface.
Zipper Lubricant
Zipper lubricant is a special product just for zippers, canvas snaps and other fasteners.
