West Marine's BlueFuture Spring Grant Cycle Ends May 1
Nonprofit organizations dedicated to youth Waterlife adventure, education and stewardship encouraged to apply for grant funding this week
Watsonville, CA, April 24, 2017 Less than a week remains to apply for a West Marine BlueFuture spring grant. The world’s premier Waterlife Outfitter is accepting online applications through the end of the day on Monday, May 1 and will announce the names of 25 BlueFuture grant award winners later in the month.
“If you are part of a nonprofit, youth-focused, community-based organization that teaches sailing, powerboating, fishing, paddling or surfing; provides boatbuilding instruction; fosters aquatic sustainability and conservation practices; or encourages learning in the marine sciences, we encourage you to apply,” says Lindsey Johnson, West Marine’s Director of Communications. “Simply visit westmarine.com/BlueFuture, click ‘Grants,’ and you’ll be able to fill out and submit your application entirely online.”
The $1,500 grants are given without restriction. In other words, grant recipients are free to use the funds as they see fit to run their respective programs.
“We want to help nonprofit groups around the country provide even more young people with access to the water — and with more opportunities to engage in Waterlife recreation and education,” Johnson says. “We believe that no one understands the needs of a community better than those who live and work there, so we seek to serve as a valued partner, allowing our grantees to apply their BlueFuture funds wherever they have the greatest impact.”
West Marine created its nonprofit BlueFuture Fund in May 2015 to provide important grant funding to charities across North America. Three annual in-store fundraisers support BlueFuture’s growth: National Safe Boating Week in May, World Oceans Day in June, and the Month of Giving in December. The Waterlife Outfitter also encourages year-round donations through its website.
The BlueFuture Fund is a donor-advised fund through the Community Foundation of Santa Cruz. All donations are fully tax-deductible, and twice each year, West Marine awards grants to worthy nonprofit organizations across North America. These much-needed funds allow the community-based groups to provide scholarships, purchase new equipment, maintain staff, add programs and so much more.
