West Marine Partners with Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to Raise More Than $42,000 with September In-Store Fundraiser

18,000 West Marine customers contributed more than $42,000 to LLS

Watsonville, CA, October 25, 2016 –West Marine, the world’s premier Waterlife Outfitter, is pleased to announce the overwhelmingly successful collaboration with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) that took place at West Marine store locations across the U.S. and Canada September 1-30.

Throughout the month, West Marine encouraged customers to donate to the cause at check-out through its in-store promotion and add their name to a paper sailboat to display in store. During the 30-day fundraiser, more than 18,000 paper sailboats were signed by West Marine customers, and more than $42,000 was raised to support LLS.

The timing of this fundraiser coincided with LLS’s Leukemia Cup Regatta, a series of sailing events held at yacht clubs across North America. Skippers register their boats and recruit their friends and colleagues to help crew, raise funds and sponsor their boat. The funds generated help with life-saving research and patient services, bringing hope to blood cancer patients and their families.

Since the Leukemia Cup Regatta’s inception, more than $58 million has been raised to help advance the LLS mission.

“West Marine is thrilled with the results of this partnership with LLS’s Leukemia Cup Regatta,” says Deb Radcliff, West Marine Senior Vice President, Marketing. “The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s efforts to accelerate cancer cures was inspiration for both our Associates and customers’ families to donate to this worthy cause. We’re overjoyed to see how many photos of the paper sailboats were posted on social media, in the hopes of encouraging others to raise awareness of LLS efforts and donate to the cause.”

Funds raised through the West Marine campaign will help improve the quality of life for patients and their families on the front lines of the cancer battle, according to Gary Jobson, National Chairman of the Leukemia Cup Regatta Series.

“It is incredible to see the generous support from the West Marine family to help The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society cure leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma,” Jobson says. “As a lymphoma survivor, I appreciate all of the help that companies like West Marine and the overall sailing community have provided to LLS. I am living proof of everyone’s efforts.”
