An anchor of the right size and type is arguably the most important piece of safety equipment to have on your boat. Regardless of the type of boat you own or where you use it, West Marine has you covered with boating’s best selection of anchors, chain, windlasses and more.

How to Anchor Securely

Anchors dig into the seabed to hold a boat in position. They serve a safety role by keeping boats out of the surf or off the rocks. They also allow boaters to secure the boat temporarily while fishing, having lunch or spending the night.

Upgrading Your Anchor Rode

Are you feeling insecure about your anchor rode? Has the line been piled in a saltwater-saturated heap in the chain locker for a long time, with chain that is so rusted that it leaves stains on the foredeck of your boat? Perhaps you're beginning to distrust the integrity of the shackle, thimble and the whole...

Your anchor should be part of an anchoring or “ground tackle” system. System components include the anchor, anchor chain, anchor shackles, anchor roller, anchor rode and windlass. Anchor rodes can be all chain or a combination of rope and chain. The anchor rode is secured to a boat cleat, Samson post or held in place by a chain stopper. Equipping your boat for anchoring includes installing a boat ladder. You might need to tie up to a boat mooring. For this, we offer a selection of mooring gear and mooring lines.
