The Dometic SeaStar Power Assist PA1200-3HP is an electronically controlled gear pump added to the hydraulic steering circuit between the helm pump and steering cylinder. The high-pressure (HP) model is specifically engineered for all duo-prop Suzuki outboards and select vessels with very high horsepower demands. Fluid circulated by the helm pump enters the power assist unit and is directed through the gear pump to the steering cylinder or cylinders. The helm serves as the control element for both speed and direction, while the power assist serves as the working element that adds force to the steering fluid. The gear pump's speed is proportional to helm movement — the faster the wheel is turned, the faster the gear pump runs. When steering is not in use, the power assist remains stopped and draws only minimal standby power. The PA1200-3HP features updated -3 ORB fittings and internal improvements for enhanced reliability, and directly replaces the previous PA1200-2HP model (as of February 2025). Suitable for boats 200 hp and above, this unit makes steering heavy, high-powered vessels as comfortable and effortless as driving a car.
