Very expensive! Finish lasted about a year and then started peeling off!! It is no better then anything you can get at a home improvement store!! Save your money and buy Minwax or varathane etc.

I have used Epifanes marine varnish for some 30 years and am always pleased with the results. It offers top level UV protection and dries with a beautiful gloss or matte finish. Care is needed in applying it correctly as instructed but it is my go to varnish.

I have used this product for 21 years.

Q I am applying 7 coats of clear varnish high gloss on bare wood. I applied the first coat with a mix of varnish and thinner 1 to 1. What is the ratio for the next 6 coats.
_{Asked by Karmin} 6 years ago: Verified Reply - MaureenAssuming you are starting from bare mahogany wood, it must be - clean, dry & sanded. You will need 7 to 8 coats in total. For your 1st coat, you will need the varnish/thinner ratio to be 50/50. For the 2nd coat 75/25 thinned, for the 3rd coat 90/10 thinned and then full strength (only varnish) for the rest of the coats. You should be painting one coat a day in the minimum temperature range of 50F. Also it is extremely important that you are sanding between coats with 320grit sandpaper.Was this answer helpful to you
Q Do the left overs in the can really harden in a short period of time. I need to use this stuff on several places on the boat, but not all at one time.

Q Can Epifanes Rapid Clear or Rapid Coat be applied over Eepihane Clear varnish. I used a Epiphane Clear on Teak toe rails in 2018 and need to figure out what to use this year.

Q I saw a comment about trying to keep the product usable when left in the can. Mine gels up no matter how tight I put the cover on and use thinner to no great effect. Does that mean I have to waste a half a can if I don't use it in a short period of time? Thanks I love the product but expensive if wasted.

Q Can this be used as a finish over Daly's Ship and Shore Sealer?

The Epifanes is a Traditional Alkyd varnish. The Daly's SeaFin Ship'n Shore Sealer is a deeply penetrating wood waterproofing sealer that may be used as a preparation coat for SeaFin Super Spar Varnish or SeaFin Teak Oil. I believe that the Epifanes could be OK, but I recommend you try it in a small remote location before using on a large highly visible area.Was this answer helpful to you
Q Looking to finish and exterior Mahony door. Minnesota has a 110°F temperature range. I'd have an exterior storm/screen door on as well.The is a five foot porch to extend far enough out that only the bottom third of the door is exposed to UV light. Is this the a suitable product for use on my door?
