Marine Refrigeration

The type of boating you do determines the type of refrigeration you will need.

West Marine offers multiple options to keep your beverages cold or store a freshly caught fish on your boat with our variety of boat refrigerators and freezers. Depending on the type of boat you own and how long your trip is, your refrigeration needs will change. You’ll need to consider the following in order to determine the type of system you will need:

• The size of your boat
• Whether it’s a powerboat or sailboat
• The climate you’ll typically experience
• The amount of space you can devote
• The length of the trips you’ll want to take
• What type of power is available

For instance, if you are taking your boat out for the day or a short weekend trip, an ice chest or cooler might meet your needs and cut down on cost. However, if you are planning a long trip, live on your boat, or simply spend a lot of time on your boat, then a larger, more conventional type refrigerator might be best. Powerboats can operate built-in, front-loading refrigerators and freezers, while sailboats spend time heeling over and need refrigerators that open from above or an icebox conversion system. You can also get portable refrigerators or install a marine ice maker on board.
