With so many built-in fish-catching features, we didn't have a choice but to give this kayak a 500-pound capacity.
And, by the way, you can only get it at West Marine.
Did we really say this kayak will hold a quarter of a ton counting you, all your gear and your day's catch? We did. We also said it had many built-in fish-catching features. Our Pompano 115 STX Sit-On-Top Angler Kayak was designed for serious fishermen and fisherwomen. The kind that can tell how large a bass is going to be just from the size of swirl it makes going after their topwater buzzbait.
With a load capacity usually reserved for pack mules, the Pompano 115 STX provides such a stable ride, you'll find yourself standing up to sight cast and fight fish with confidence. We've even made it easy to stand up by adding an assist strap. When you do sit down (like when you're cruising across the lake to be first on the prime fishing spots), you'll notice the premium high-back seat is padded and adjusts for your paddling comfort and efficiency. The seat can be moved forward to paddle, aft for more standing room or totally removed for storage and transport. You will also appreciate the adjustable foot brace system that allows you to not only adjust for your leg length, but to change your leg positions for optimal paddling and then shift positions or stretch out during the day as needed.
We also added one of the handiest features to the Pompano 115 STX since we started shipping kayaks to the store of your choice for free. That might sound like a shameless plug for our Ships to Store for FREE* option, but in fact, picking it up from your local store at no extra charge beats paying to have it shipped on a truck that will probably try to deliver it when you aren't home to receive it. Just make sure you arrive at the store to pick it up with a vehicle and/or rack that will accommodate your new 11'6", 76-pound fishing partner (we wouldn't remind you to do this if it didn't happen more often than you'd think). So what new feature did we include? A removable electronics pod.
What's the big deal about this removable electronics pod? Try zero, as in nada, draft after the transducer is mounted. That means your transducer won't catch on weeds or other debris in even the shallowest of waters. Setting up your fishfinder is quite simple. Just install the fishfinder on top of the pod, secure the battery inside the pod and attach the transducer to the bottom of the pod with only two screws. The pod is easy to remove for storing, transporting or outwitting dirty, rotten, no-good, low-life thieves. And speaking of despicable, scum-of-the-earth crooks, we've also given the Pompano 115 STX metal carry handles that not only make it easy to portage, they are also perfect for locking up your kayak with a cable and lock (sold separately) when it is out of your sight.
Have we mentioned the replaceable wear guard at the stern keel? This guard will bear the brunt of a chance meeting with underwater rocks and limbs or an intentional launch from a sandy or rocky shore. Made from roto-molded polyethylene, the hull of the Pompano 115 STX is flexible and impact resistant so it will endure years of rough handling. Self-bailing scupper holes are strategically placed so water that finds its way over the deck will automatically drain out so you won't sit in a puddle of water all day.
Aren't we through telling you about all the features? Hardly. The deck of the Pompano 115 STX offers plenty of storage space with a large dry hatch in the bow, a smaller dry hatch between your legs and a huge tankwell in the stern with shock-cord rigging that makes a great place for your tackle box, cooler, bait tank or creel (all sold separately). Two accessory rails make adding...you guessed it...more fishing gear like swiveling rod holders and camera mounts quick and easy. You'll find a paddle park system to secure your paddle when your hands are busy casting or fighting and landing fish. Two molded-in, flush-mount rod holders are located behind the seat so your rods will be out of the way while you're paddling, but easy to grab when you reach your favorite spot.
Don't discount the role color also plays in the function of your kayak. The combination we use works as both camouflage to help break up your profile and the bright spots make it noticeable enough so larger boats will spot you.
If you don't already own them or it's time to replace the ones you have, remember to order a kayak paddle and a life jacket (both sold separately) so you'll be ready to start catching your limit as soon as possible!
