Backstay insulators have been viewed in the past as a weak link or a failure point in the backstay That is until the Hayn Failsafe BackStay Insulator. Hayn has engineered their Failsafe Backstay Insulators to maintain backstay integrity even if the insulator fails. A Tufnol™ socket electrically insulates the retaining nut from the fitting and effectively creates an electrical break in the backstay. If this insulated connection were to fail, the retaining nut is captured by the stainless steel body of the fitting and the integrity of the backstay is maintained. It then can be re-tensioned to take up the slack caused by the failed socket and repaired at a later time. An ideal installation requires two insulators with one aloft 3' from the masthead and one 7' of the deck with 35' or greater of distance between insulators. Similar to the other Hayn Hi-Mod compression fittings, the Hi-MOD Failsafe Insulator features the same cone design and unique crown ring that distributes rigging loads between the individual wire strands. The connections can be disassembled for inspection and re-used without replacing parts. Ends are sized to specific wire diameters and are available in commonly used sizes.
